The Purpose of the Role

By managing the safe transport of materials and equipment, you directly contribute to the productivity of construction sites and home improvement projects across the Western Cape. Detailed Key Responsibilities

As a Code 10 Driver at our Stonewood facility, your daily tasks extend beyond the steering wheel. We look for individuals who take ownership of their vehicle and their route.

1. Superior Customer Service

You are often the only person from Brights Hardware that a customer sees on the day of their delivery. We expect you to maintain a polite, helpful, and professional demeanor at all times. Whether you are navigating a busy construction site or a residential driveway, your goal is to make the delivery process seamless for the client.

2. Vehicle Maintenance and Safety Compliance

Safety is our top priority. You will be responsible for:

Daily Pre-Trip Inspections: Conducting thorough checks to ensure the vehicle meets basic roadworthy standards before leaving the yard.
Reporting Defects: Any issues, from a flickering indicator to engine performance changes, must be reported immediately via a vehicle repair report to your Supervisor.
Trip Sheet Management: Maintaining accurate logs of opening and closing kilometers, as well as precise departure and arrival times.

3. Logistical Efficiency and Documentation

Accuracy in paperwork is just as important as accuracy in driving. Your duties include:

Route Planning: Selecting the most efficient paths to minimize fuel consumption and ensure on-time delivery.
Stock Verification: Ensuring all outgoing stock is accompanied by the correct documentation before it is loaded onto the truck.
Transfer Logbooks: Recording all transferred documents and ensuring that the receiving branch signs your logbook upon delivery.
Reporting Delays: Keeping your Supervisor informed of any bottleneck at branches or on the road to allow for effective rescheduling.

4. Team Leadership and Yard Support

You will not work in a vacuum. Your role involves:

Supervising Assistants: Ensuring that truck assistants remain with the vehicle at all times and adhere to company safety protocols.
Loading Knowledge: Understanding the weight distribution and securing of various hardware materials to prevent damage during transit.
Stock Counts: Participating in perpetual stock takes to ensure yard accuracy.
General Delegations: Being a team player by performing work-related tasks as requested by your superiors.

Requirements and Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate who combines technical driving skill with administrative competence.

Educational Background

Matric Certificate or equivalent.
Alternatively, we accept three completed Intercept courses equating to a total of 120 credits.
Experience-Based Consideration: If you do not have a Matric but possess a valid license and at least 3 years of professional driving experience, your application will still be considered.

Licensing and Experience

Code 10 Driver’s Licence: This is a mandatory requirement. (Candidates with higher codes, such as Code 14, will have a distinct advantage).
Valid PDP: A current Public Driving Permit for both Goods and Passengers is essential.
Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience driving heavy vehicles.
