Network Engineer

Location: Newcastle (On-site)

PURPOSE:
This position is responsible for research, design, documentation, planning, development, maintenance planning and implementation guidance of Networking/Communications solutions, services and architectures. This includes participation in the planning of all aspects of infrastructure necessary to ensure the secure provisioning of network/communications services to meet business and customer needs.

The candidate will provide guidance in the production of network designs and design policies, strategies, architectures and documentation to support the requirements and strategy of an organisation’s business. This may incorporate all aspects of the communications infrastructure, multiple platform network integration, internal and external, mobile, public and private, Internet/Intranet and call centres.
The candidate will provide guidance in the identification of new and emerging network/communications technologies and products and ICT methods and techniques and the on-going assessment of their relevance and potential value to the organisation which would include LAB testing and fit for purpose assessments. The candidate will set goals, monitor work, and evaluate results to ensure objectives and operating requirements are met and are in line with the needs and mission of the organisation.
 

FORMAL EDUCATION:

  • Grade 12 (NQF 4)
  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma qualifications in ICT field will be an advantage

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 – 7 years’ experience in a network environment
  • Understand the strategic composition of a world class network ICT company
  • Understand customer current infrastructure and be able to relate the understanding into Network Engineering guidelines
  • Ability to provide firm leadership to a disparate team of network specialists in terms of daily operations, configuration guidelines and fault finding
  • Ability to present and articulate network related knowledge and topics to management and executive level audience
  • Advanced ability to guide Network Specialists in complex 3rd level diagnostics and fault finding on all network technologies
  • Solid experience in Arista DC-LAN network infrastructure
  • Firm hands-on experience on live production networks
  • Exposure and Solid Knowledge of Product-Specific Technologies related to Routing and Switching, Wireless LAN, DC LAN, Network Traffic Shaping, UC, VC and IPT

TECHNICAL / LEGAL CERTIFICATION

  • Fortinet NSE4 Certified
  • Fortinet NSE7 Certified will be an advantage.
  • CCIE certified and additional Cisco specialisations would be an advantage

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide Guidance to the company regarding market trends and strategic directions in terms of all ICT matters
  • Conduct Research, advise and guide networking department in terms of new technologies, gearing to future proof network solutions
  • Conceptualise Solutions and do detail low level engineering designs from high level solutions to enable network specialists to do the deployment for new solutions sold
  • Interface with Pre-Sales to establish networking products, solutions and services that compete in a world class market
  • Provide Guidance to the Networking department in terms of the technical application of networking skills
  • Demonstrate strong network design and technical engineering
  • Make recommendations for changes in the internal and client organisation’s use of the products and services supplied in order to increase the benefits the clients will ultimately obtain from Gijima, and help ensure client retention
  • Constantly utilises technical engineering experience and skills to assess and advise on the practicality of alternatives, combining technical limitations with operational realities
  • Guide the advanced high-level problem management process as defined by ITIL
  • Provide guidance to establish mechanism of monitoring, event generation, ticket logging and reporting of incidents together with monitoring specialists
  • Establish processes and procedures of the entire Networking department in conjunction with the team of network specialist
  • Analyse draft solution proposals prior to submission to the customer to check for technical viability and fit for purpose solutions
  • Where needs are recognised as falling outside one’s own area of knowledge, identify a suitable solution offering
  • Continuously ensure that technology is aligned to clients’ needs and clients are educated in terms of the technology used

Maintenance Technician

Purpose
Gijima is recruiting for a qualified and CERTIFIED maintenance technician.
Responsible for attending to all campus support maintenance requests, giving feedback, and continually reviewing costs to stay within budget.
Formal Education
●Grade 12 (NQF 4)
●Electrical Certification/PlumbingExperience
●Must have 2 – 3 years of relevant experience.
●Self-driven: proactive
●Effective Verbal and communication skills
●Must have a Valid driver’s License
Technical/Legal Certification
●Computer literate
●Electrical certificationResponsibilities
●Planned Maintenance
-Managing and conducting the required preventative maintenance.
-Conducting all routine maintenance inspections.
-Overseeing the continuous improvement of all preventative maintenance and inspection schedules.
-Maintaining and periodically updating the critical spares list.
-Ensuring stock levels of critical spares.

●Provide minor repairs & maintenance services
-Replacement of light globes; door locks, painting, replacement of carpet tiles and ceiling tiles;
-Leaking taps, unblock drains, replace broken toilet seats, and unblock urinals.
-Adjust aircon settings
-Check for faults on the DB boxes
-Neaten and fix faulty wiring or faulty plugs
-Minor service of aircons
-Daily checks on DB boxes, generators, and UPS
