Project 20K — Linkon’s Nationwide Youth Opportunity Drive

What is Project 20K?

Project 20K is Linkon’s bold, national initiative to connect 20,000 young South Africans with real opportunities — paid jobs, internships, learnerships and bursary-linked placements — over the next 12–24 months. Built on Linkon’s experience listing bursaries, internships and entry-level jobs, the project brings together employers, training partners and communities so more young people can move from searching to employed.

This is about practical change: fewer barriers, faster matches, and support so candidates are ready to work and employers get trained, motivated staff.

Our mission

  • Place 20,000 youth into gainful opportunities (jobs, internships, learnerships).

  • Equip applicants with short skills-boost workshops (CV, interview coaching, workplace readiness).

  • Partner with employers to create entry-level roles and structured trainee programs.

  • Track outcomes so we can continuously improve placements and scale success across provinces.

Who should join?

  • Grade 12 learners, recent matriculants and graduates looking for paid work, learnerships or internships.

  • Unemployed youth (18–35) seeking their first industry experience.

  • Employers & SMEs who can offer entry-level roles, internships, or workplace training.

  • Training partners, NGOs and community organisations who want to upskill candidates or host workshops.

What Project 20K offers to youth

  • Priority listing on Linkon for Project 20K vacancies — increased visibility to hiring companies.

  • Free application support: CV templates, motivation letter samples and step-by-step guides.

  • Interview preparation: Short virtual coaching sessions and recorded tips you can replay.

  • Referral to training: Fast-track links to short industry-aligned courses for in-demand entry skills (customer service, basic IT, warehouse operations, retail readiness).

  • Ongoing support: Post-placement check-ins to increase retention and success at work.

What employers get

  • Access to pre-screened candidates actively motivated to work.

  • Short onboarding toolkits to help employers hire entry-level staff and turn them into productive team members.

  • Subsidy & partnership matchmaking: We help employers find training partners or local incentives (where available) to offset trainee costs.

  • Brand visibility as a Project 20K partner on Linkon and social channels.

How to apply (for youth)

  1. Create/Update your profile on Linkon: https://www.linkon.co.za

  2. Look for the Project 20K tag/filter on job listings or visit the Project 20K page on Linkon.

  3. Apply to roles marked Project 20K — follow the application steps on each listing.

  4. Complete the free readiness checklist and opt-in for CV & interview coaching.

  5. Attend any scheduled online group coaching session (optional but recommended).

Tip: Upload a clear, concise CV and a recent photo (optional). Add any short course certificates you may have — even short online courses increase your chances.

How employers and partners can get involved

  • Post a Project 20K vacancy when you advertise entry-level jobs, internships or learnerships on Linkon. Mark it with the Project 20K tag during listing.

  • Sponsor training sessions or provide workplace mentorship.

  • Partner to create structured traineeships (1–12 month placements) that offer real skills and a pathway to permanent work.

  • Email our Project 20K team: project20k@linkon.co.za to register your interest as an employer or partner.

Timeline & targets

  • Phase 1 (0–3 months): Launch, employer recruitment, candidate registration and first coaching cohorts.

  • Phase 2 (3–12 months): Scale placements, run monthly matching drives and monitor retention.

  • Phase 3 (12–24 months): Consolidate partnerships, report impact, expand to new regions and refine best practices.

We’ll publish monthly progress updates and success stories on the Linkon blog so the community can track how many young people we place and support.
