Harmony Gold Bursary Scheme – Now Open for 2026

The Harmony Gold Bursary Scheme is an initiative focused on nurturing academic excellence and empowering local communities through access to higher education. Applications for the 2026 academic year are now open and will close on 10 October 2025.

The scheme is open to:

  • Matriculants intending to pursue full-time tertiary education.
  • Current tertiary students who meet the academic criteria.

Preference is given to applicants from Harmony’s surrounding communities, although applications are welcomed from all qualifying candidates.

Bursary Application Requirements

To be considered for the Harmony Gold Bursary Scheme, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Be a South African citizen.
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 35.
  • Possess a valid South African identity document.
  • Hold a National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) with a minimum of 60% in all subjects.
  • Applicants interested in Engineering fields must have obtained a minimum of 70% in Mathematics and Physical Science.
  • Current tertiary students must have an average of 60% or above in their major subjects.
  • Be enrolled in or planning to study full-time at a recognised tertiary institution in South Africa.
  • Submit a concise Curriculum Vitae (maximum 3 pages).

Fields of Study Supported

Harmony Gold’s operations rely on a wide range of professional disciplines, all essential for the safe, responsible, and efficient production of gold. The bursary programme supports studies in the following major career fields:

1. Finance

Finance professionals manage all financial transactions across the company. This includes ensuring proper classification, allocation, and valuation of transactions.

2. Geology

Geologists at Harmony play a central role in ore extraction and mining operations. They contribute to underground planning and problem-solving, working closely with technical and production teams.

3. Human Resources

The HR department is responsible for recruiting, training, assessing, and managing personnel. It ensures Harmony remains compliant with employment legislation and maintains a productive work culture.

4. Mechanical and Electrical Engineering

Engineers are responsible for installing, operating, and maintaining mechanical and electrical systems and infrastructure. These roles are critical for safety and efficiency at all Harmony sites.

5. Metallurgy

Metallurgists are specialists in the chemical and physical properties of metals—particularly gold. Their work ensures the optimal processing of ore and refinement of the final product.

6. Mining Engineering

Mining engineers are involved at every stage of gold extraction—from planning and drilling to blasting and production. Their expertise ensures responsible and sustainable operations.

Applicants must ensure all documentation is submitted before the closing date of 10 October 2025. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
