We are looking for a Peer Educator who will be responsible for health promotion education and behaviour change of adolescent & youth for the Orange Babies program. The focus will be to promote access to HIV, TB, Sexual R eproductive H ealth (SRH) needs and enhance retention in care through the strategies implemented in the Anova AYFS program. Responsibilities include assisting the youth enrolled on the Orange Babies program with school works.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Educate youth on risky behaviours and equip them with knowledge on HIV, TB, SRH needs at high volume facilities
  • Provide comprehensive promotion of SRH including condom use demonstration, STI awareness and treatment working closely with the Orange Babies outreach team and the local schools
  • Promote and distribute information, education and counselling (IEC) material on essential adolescent and youth health topics
  • Provide age appropriate HIV risk reduction counselling
  • Ensure continuous psychosocial support for the positives (HIV, TB, GBV-Gender Based V iolence etc.)
  • Identify, meet and establish working partnerships with community stakeholders
  • Conduct peer education at the local high schools that are supported by the Orange Babies community centres
  • Enrol the learners to the Hope centre for skills development (computer skills, etc.)
  • Conduct career guidance campaigns with the youth/adolescent at the Orange Babies supported community centres
  • Compile and submit relevant data forms
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting according to Anova’s requirements

Essential qualifications and experience:

  • Grade 12
  • Post matric certificate
  • Local youth between 18 and 25 years of age
  • Qualified HIV counsellor with 2 years’ experience working with adolescents and young people
  • Experience with public speaking and trained on facilitation skills
  • 2 years’ experience in basic HIV/Aids, TB, STI, and related work
  • 2 years’ experience in a primary health care setting
  • Previous experience in counselling skills (an advantage)
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to speak, English, Xitsonga and Northern Sotho(Sepedi)
  • Report writing skills
  • Punctual, Reliable and organized
  • Problem solving skills
