Job Description:
  • Ensure effective Rock Engineering service delivery and support to Mining Operations
  • Ensure adherence to organizational best practice and legislative requirements
  • Actively participate in creating a safe mining environment
  • Maintain effective stakeholder relationships
  • Ensure successful teamwork and supervision of Rock Engineering resources
  • Continuous improvement of the Rock Engineering function
  • Effectively monitor and control rock engineering activities
  • Ensure that rock engineering service and support requirements are mapped against operational and project needs
  • Plan, prioritize and coordinate Rock Engineering monitoring tasks and activities
  • Ensure proper Rock Engineering input into the design of underground excavations, underground support and slope design for the opencast operation
  • Ensure a thorough understanding of the service requirements related to operational strata control processes
  • Develop quality controls to ensure alignment of operational rock engineering interventions, systems, and processes with standardization requirements as well as policies, procedures and operating standards
  • Analyze and interpret rock engineering data and information to identify changes in the production environment, defects and safety risks
  • Conduct regular inspections and ensure problems are addressed proactively and aligned with Rock Engineering requirements
  • Ensure that operating standards, policies and procedures are appropriate and clearly understood
  • Guide and develop practices in line with strata control practices, principles, standardization requirements and operating standards
  • Ensure that all activities are performed in line with the Mine Health and Safety Act, and Minerals Act
  • Provide coaching and advice to operational stakeholders related to strata control services and support aligned to best practices
  • Provide input into the development of safety standards, processes, policies and procedures
  •  BSC Degree / Graduate Diploma in Mining Engineering or a related Science field (NQF 7/8).
  • Chamber of Mines Rock Mechanics Certificate: Rock Engineering.
Additional information:
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Rock Engineering in the Mining Industry.
  • Computer Literacy (MS Office and relevant Rock Engineering Packages).
  • Competent report writing skills
  • In-depth understanding of relevant safety and mining legislation including:
  1. The Mine Health and Safety Act
  2. Minerals and Energy Act
