The R350 Grant
Sassa introduced the R350 Social Relief of Distress grant (SRD) at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic to provide financial assistance and special relief to those who had lost their jobs as a result of the lockdown.
The SRD grant is often referred to as the R350 grant, or the special relief grant, and has been extended by the Social Security Agency multiple times due to the number of vulnerable South Africans that rely on it to be able to meet their basic needs.
SASSA ’s mandate is to provide a social security net for the vulnerable and needy members of society, particularly those who are unable to support themselves financially and have no other form of income.
What Does A “Pending ”Status Mean?
Many applicants of the SASSA SRD R350 grant have said that their application for the R350 grant has been stuck on “pending ”, leaving them confused about what this means for their Sassa application.
You can always do an SRD status check or a general Sassa status check.
Sassa has revealed that if you see “pending ”on your application status, it means that your application has not yet been approved.
This is because Sassa is still in the process of scanning your details which they will need to verify before you can be approved as an SRD grant beneficiary.
If your SRD application is approved, you will receive an SMS from SASSA requesting your bank details. Sassa will use these banking details to pay your money each month, so it is important that you make sure you provide the correct banking information, contact and personal details.
Reapply for R350 SRD grant, department tells those in need 2022
People who were receiving the R350 social relief of distress (SRD) grant will have to reapply for it, the department of social development announced on Friday.
The department said during his 2022 state of the nation address, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the Covid-19 SRD grant would be extended for a year from April 2022 to March 2023, “to ensure that no person in this country has to endure the pain and indignity of hunger”.
The department said given that the national state of disaster was lifted in April, it has endeavored to develop the regulatory framework for the payment of the grant within the social assistance legislation.
It put out regulations for public comment in February and has now concluded the process.
“Given that the Covid-19 SRD will now be provided for under a new legislative framework, and that additional qualifying and assessment criteria will be added, those in need of assistance will have to apply for the Covid-19 SRD or reapply if they were previously in receipt of this grant.
“Fortunately, the entire application system remains a purely digital process, thereby enabling quick access and turnaround times. The application system will be opened at 12am on Saturday, April 23.”
The department said applications can be lodged on this website.
It said all applicants are reminded that they will be considered for the Covid-19 SRD from the month in which the application is lodged and this will be validated every month.
“This means that all applications lodged in April will be considered as from April 2022.”
