We have exciting positions for a Training Officer who will be responsible for conducting training and executing assessments on learners on the Mining Equipment and Engineering processes.

These are Fixed-Term contract roles, ending 31 July 2022

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

Job Description:

As an Engineering Training Officer & Mining Training Officer; your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Deliver training for different functional areas on aspects of legally required training, transformation and mindsets and behaviors.
  • Conduct assessments against MQA standards and processes.
  • Conduct practical and theoretical training.
  • Manage compliance of the teams within the work area with external (legislative, regulatory, permitting) local requirements as a minimum level of site performance.
  • Monitor learners’ performance and application of procedures.
  • Monitor and evaluate learners according to NQF standards and drafting of progress reports
  • Training- and in-situ qualification verification.
  • POE verification and authorization assistance for contractors.
  • Conducting equipment competence verification.
  • PTO’s on new operators on-boarding from contractors, as well as 3 months, follow-up PTO’s on novice operators.
  • Updating contractor employee data on Key Control and Site Matrixes.
  • Act as liaison between Kolomela HRD and the Contracting company.

This role is in the HRD Operational Training department at a Band 7 level reporting to the Section Manager HRD.


You must have:

  • Grade 12
  • Relevant Higher Certificate /National Diploma with OD- ETDP qualification
  • Assessor / Moderators registration with MQA advantageous
  • Relevant Trade Certificate required for Engineering Training

Knowledge, Skills and Experience required: 

  • 2 -3 years of experience in Mining Functional Training and Human Resources Development
  • Experience in TMM Licensing / Engineering or Plant environment
  • Valid driver’s license
  • You will be required to pass a medical fitness certificate to be considered for this position.
