REQUIREMENTS: Degree/ National Diploma in Environmental Management/Science, Natural Science, Animal Health or equivalent qualification. 2-3 years’ experience in a related field. Knowledge of the application of the relevant national and international prescripts relating to the management of invasive alien species such as the National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act (NEMBA) and its associated Regulations, the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the World Trade Organization Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary. Measures (WTO-SPS Agreement), the International Plant. Protection Convention (IPPC) and the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE). Working Knowledge of alien and invasive species management as well as the inspection procedure. Good understanding of biodiversity conservation, ecological interactions at population, community and ecosystem level especially related to Alien Invasive Species. Good communication, interpersonal and administrative skills. Competency in the use of a computer and MS Office software. Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to work independently as well as in a team. Willingness to work long hours. In possession of a valid driver’s license and willingness to travel and work irregular hours.

DUTIES: Conduct inspections at international passengers’ terminals, cargo and mail centre and keep records thereof. Handle complaints, queries and enquiries from customers/stakeholders, Compile records of intercepted specimens. Complete the EMI pocketbook to ensure an effective chain of custody process in cases that require enforcement action. Conduct awareness sessions in line with the biosecurity advocacy plan and ensure the inspection reports are submitted for necessary enforcement interventions.
